Currency

The currency used in the Maldives is the Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR). However, most resorts and tourist establishments in the Maldives accept major international currencies such as US dollars, Euros, British pounds, and Japanese yen. Many resorts also have their own currency exchange desks, where guests can exchange their foreign currency for Maldivian Rufiyaa or vice versa. Some resorts also offer ATM facilities where guests can withdraw local currency using their international debit or credit cards. However, it is always advisable to carry some Maldivian Rufiyaa with you when traveling to the Maldives, especially if you plan to explore the local markets or take a local ferry to other islands. Also, note that the exchange rates offered by the resorts may not be the most competitive, so it’s a good idea to check the prevailing exchange rates before exchanging your currency.
